I. Analysis of the teaching materialThe material is Warming Up in Unit 1 Friendship from PEP NSEEFC Module 1. The topic of this unit is friends and friendship. The unit 1 examines different kind of friendship. It's not only explores friendship between people but also pays particular attention to the friendship one can develop with oneself. In the other words, it shows how a person find comfort and support with an imaginary friend. In these reading from The Diary of Anne Frank, students will see how a lonely and frightened teenager copes with a very unusually stressful situation.She dose this by confiding in Kitty, the name of her diary. Anne didn't want to set a series of facts in diary as most people do, but she want her diary to be her friend. So Anne called her diary Kitty. She examines her problems and tries to find a way to deal with them.The purpose of the Warming Up section is to introduce the topic to the students in an interesting way, to remind them of what they have already known and let them think about it. To “warm up“ means to do a bit of preparation for a large learning task.II. Teaching important and difficult pointsTeaching important points:1. Use the given adjectives and sentence structures to describe one of your friends.2. Learn to evaluate friends and friendship.Teaching difficult points:1. Work together with partners and describe one of your good friends.2. Discuss with partners and find out ways to solve the problems.III. Teaching Aims1. Analysis of the learners The students in my class are of different levels so I should adapt the lesson to each of them and try to solve different kinds of problems which may appear in the lesson. So I often use some activities in the class to finish some tasks such as individual, pair or group work to let each of them have more chances to practice English and involve actively in the lesson, thus to make some improvement .VI. Teaching procedures:Step 1 Lead-in and Warming-upActivity 1: Before the lesson, the teacher can arouse the students’ interests by showing a video of Auld Lang Syne .Step 2 warming Activity 1: Brainstorming.What qualities should a good friend have?Outgoing; humorous; friendly; clever; kinder-hearted; open-minded; patient; intelligent; easy-going .Activity 2: ask the students to use the adjective above to tell the class his or her friend in one or two sentence.Activity 3: Give a brief description of one of your friends. The following phrases and structures may be helpful:His/Her name is ……He /She is …… years old.He /She likes …… and dislikes ……He /She enjoys …… and hates……He /She is very kind/friendly/……When /Where we got to know each other.Avtivity 4: What types of friendship do you have? You either neglect your friend’s needs or just do what he/she wants you to do. You should think more about what a good friend needs to do.★ 8~12 points: You are a good friend but you sometimes let your friendship become too important, or you fail to show enough concern for your friend’s needs and feelings. Try to strike a balance between your friend’s needs and your own responsibilities.★ 13+ points: You are an excellent friend who recognizes that to be a good friend you need balance your needs and your friend’s. To have a friend, you need to be a good friend.Step 5 Group work (output)The teacher can give each group one of these questions below to talk about. Then let the class share their ideas. It’s better to stimulate the students to express their own opinions about these questions.1. Do you think it is a good idea to borrow money from your friend?Why and Why not? What factors may cause the breakdown of a good friendship?2. What can be your unusual friend besides human beings? And why?Step 6 Homework Write down a short passage about your ideas /the factors/your unusual friends.Prepare for the new lesson.
